How to Use ChatGPT Record Mode
To initiate a recording, simply click the 'Record' button located at the bottom of any chat. Note that you may need to grant microphone and/or system-audio permissions upon first use. Speak naturally, and ChatGPT will transcribe your words in real-time. A timer indicates the elapsed recording time, and you can pause and resume as needed.
To pause or stop a recording, select the 'Stop' icon. From here, you can resume the recording or finalize the session. To complete the recording and upload the transcript and summary to ChatGPT, click 'Send.' At any point, you can cancel a recording using the 'X' button.
After Recording Generating Summaries and Further Actions
After selecting 'Send,' ChatGPT uploads the transcript and generates a private canvas containing a structured summary of the recording. You can then manually edit or transform the canvas. Ask ChatGPT to rewrite the summary as an email, project plan, or even code. This feature leverages the power of AI to streamline your workflow.
Canvases and transcripts adhere to the same retention settings as other conversations and canvases in your workspace. Deleting a conversation removes its canvas and transcript within 30 days, unless legal retention is required. Audio files are automatically deleted after transcription.

Limits & Pricing
Upon its initial release, ChatGPT Record Mode is included at no extra cost. The recording length is currently capped at 120 minutes per session. Longer sessions will automatically stop and generate notes that are uploaded as a private canvas.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you train on my recordings? Audio recordings from record mode are only used for transcription purposes and deleted afterward. We do not use these audio recordings to train our models. If you are a Pro, Plus, or Free user and have Improve the model for everyone enabled in your settings, then we may use transcripts and canvases from record mode to train our models. Content from Business, Enterprise, and Edu workspaces is excluded from model training by default, including transcripts and canvases from ChatGPT record.
How long are canvases and transcripts stored? Once ChatGPT record has generated a canvas, that canvas and associated transcript follow the same retention settings as other conversations and canvases in your workspace.
Does ChatGPT record mode support multiple speakers? Yes, record mode is able to transcribe from multiple speakers.
Is non-English speech supported? ChatGPT record mode works best in English today. Accuracy for other languages is improving but can vary.
Can I disable ChatGPT record mode for my Enterprise, Edu, or Business workspace? Yes, workspace owners can toggle Record in Settings → Workspace Controls.
Reference record history When “Reference record history” is turned on, ChatGPT can reference your canvases and transcripts from your past recordings, in order to recall useful information you’ve shared and provide more relevant responses across new conversations. You can enable or disable this feature in Settings under the Personalization section.
Troubleshooting: If the Record button is missing, update to the latest ChatGPT macOS app and confirm you’re logged into a supported workspace. Resolve MacOS permission errors by enabling ChatGPT access to your Microphone and Screen & System Audio Recording. Improve transcript quality by using a headset and reducing background noise.
