Important Before You Begin Account Recovery
If you've enabled two-step verification and can't access your alternate verification methods, we're unable to assist directly due to security protocols. Microsoft support agents cannot send password reset links or modify account details.
If you *haven't* enabled two-step verification, but don't recognize the verification options during a password reset, use the Sign-in Helper tool instead. This is often the most effective first step.
Sign-in Helper Tool: Your First Step
The Sign-in Helper tool guides you through the account recovery process. It asks questions specific to your account, so only you can answer them. Microsoft reviews your answers and responds within 24 hours.
We highly recommend reviewing the video guide or the steps outlined below before attempting the account recovery form to improve your chances of success.
Mastering The Microsoft Account Recovery Form
The account recovery form is designed to verify your identity. Here's how to complete it effectively:
1. Working Email: Provide an accessible email address. Microsoft will use this for updates on your request. This can be any active email account, including one belonging to a friend or family member. If you don't have another email, create a temporary Outlook.com account.
2. Gather Information: Collect details about your Microsoft account. The more information you provide, the better. Answer questions as thoroughly as possible; guessing is acceptable if you're unsure. For questions with the 'add more' option, provide as much data as you can.
3. Account-Specific Questions: Expect questions related to the Microsoft services you use. This may include details about your contacts, email subject lines (be exact), SkypeID or contacts, hardware ID of a console, old passwords, and saved passwords in browsers (check your browser's password manager). Remember details from when you created your account – name changes, moves, and country-specific domains (e.g., @outlook.co.uk).
“The more information you provide, the better your chances of recovering your account.

Important: If you've enabled two-step verification and can't access your alternative verification methods, Microsoft support can't assist directly.
If you see "The Microsoft account you've entered does not exist", double-check your spelling. If it's correct, review the "My username and password have stopped working" help article.
After submitting the form, Microsoft will send results to the working email within 24 hours. Your next steps depend on the verification outcome: If successful, you'll receive instructions. If not, keep trying (up to two times per day).
Once you regain access, review 'How to help keep your Microsoft account safe and secure' for guidance on enhancing your account's security.
