Getting Started How to Check Spelling in Excel
To initiate a spelling check in Excel, navigate to the 'Review' tab on the ribbon, and click on 'Spelling' or press F7. This action activates the spelling checker, allowing you to review and correct potential errors within your worksheet.
When you select a single cell, Excel will check the entire worksheet, including comments, headers, footers, and any inserted graphics. If you select multiple cells, the spelling checker confines its review to the chosen cells. Note that cells containing formulas are generally not checked by default; however, you can spell check words in the formula bar by selecting them directly.
Correcting as You Type Leveraging AutoComplete and AutoCorrect
Excel provides helpful features like AutoComplete and AutoCorrect to streamline your workflow and minimize typing errors. AutoComplete, enabled by default, anticipates your entries by matching them with existing data in other cells. This functionality is especially useful while creating formulas. AutoCorrect, on the other hand, automatically fixes common typing mistakes across formula text, worksheet controls, text boxes, and chart labels.
To configure AutoCorrect, go to 'File' > 'Options' > 'Proofing', then select 'AutoCorrect Options'. Here, you can customize the list of autocorrection rules to suit your typing habits and preferences. Remember, AutoCorrect doesn't apply to text within dialog boxes.
